Languaging

You’ve heard the saying, “Sticks & stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”  Well, that’s not exactly true.  Words can definitely hurt others and also yourself.

The words that you use in everyday life do make an impact on you.  I’ve written before about changing the words from “I HAVE to…” to “I GET to…” (https://theellenlee.com/i-get-to/).  Changing other things you say can not only impact your attitude, but also your health.

For example, I hear the phrases, “It breaks my heart” or “It kills me that…” and other similar phrases.  Your body hears what you say and can take it quite literally.  If you are one that says, “It breaks my heart” a lot, do you have heart issues both physically and emotionally?  If you say things are a “pain in the neck,” do you literally have a painful neck?  Maybe you have hearing problems if you say, “I don’t want to hear it” a lot.

Sayings like these add up.  You can choose to change those sayings or just don’t use them.  Use positive sayings to improve the impact.  You can say “Bless your heart,” which seems popular here in Texas.

So notice the things you say.  If you need help changing phrasing, let me know and we can see what we can come up with.  I promise I won’t be a pain in the neck to work with. 😉
